The North's Lord Chief Justice has reserved judgement in the court challenge of jailed loyalist leader, Jonny Adair, to his detention, saying he will give his decision as soon as possible.

The Northern Secretary, Paul Murphy, returned Adair to prison last month alledging he had been involved in directing terrorism, drug dealing, extortion, money laundering and procuring and distributing guns.

The wife and some supporters of the loyalist faction leader have fled North Belfast for Scotland following overnight attacks on their homes.

Other supporters of Adair's have defected to the mainstream UDA after being told they would be shot dead if they remained loyal to him.

Last night's events in the Lower Shankill leave Adair isolated by his former colleagues.

Funeral of UDA leader

The funeral is taking place in Rathcoole near North Belfast of John Gregg, the UDA's leader in South Antrim.

The 45-year-old was shot along with 33-year-old Robert Carson in the docks area of the city last Saturday by suspected members of a rival UDA faction.

Loyalist sources are claiming today's attendance at the Rathcoole estate will form the biggest paramilitary show of strength since the funeral of LVF leader, Billy Wright, five years ago.
