A man acquitted of being a member of the Continuity IRA was treated in hospital in Limerick last night for a head wound received during an incident in a pub.

It is understood Robert McNamara, originally of St Michael's Avenue in Tipperary, was drinking with a number of other men in a pub in Limerick's Parnell Street when the incident occurred.

Robert McNamara was hit on the head with a broken glass.

He was treated in the Mid Western Regional Hospital where he received stitches for a head wound. He discharged himself at midnight.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.

McNamara is one of six men who were acquitted yesterday on charges of being a member of the Continuity IRA at the Special Criminal Court. It was one of the longest cases ever heard by the non-jury court.
